According to a person acquainted with the situation, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa emailed a letter of resignation to the speaker of the country’s parliament late Thursday.

The source noted that it was unclear if the letter, which was written just after Rajapaksa landed in Singapore, would be accepted in electronic form.
