A senior Sudanese politician was detained on Thursday as protests against military rule continued in the capital Khartoum for the seventh month, with tear gas and heavy security forces deployed.
A military coup in October essentially derailed a 2019 power-sharing agreement between generals who deposed President Omar al-Bashir and opposition political groups.
The Sudanese Communist Party said its chairman, Mohamed Mukhtar Al-Khatib, was seized on Thursday after visiting Juba and meeting with prominent Sudanese rebel commanders.
