Neutral Switzerland has vetoed the re-export of Swiss-made ammunition used in Gepard anti-aircraft tanks being sent to Ukraine by Germany, the government announced on Tuesday.
Germany earlier announced its first delivery of heavy weapons to Ukraine to assist it in repelling Russian attacks, following weeks of domestic and international pressure to do so.
The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) confirmed SRF’s report that it had prevented Germany from sending munitions for the Gepard tank to Ukraine.
SECO received two requests from Germany to transfer ammunition previously received from Switzerland to Ukraine. The first was about 35mm ammunition for the Gepard tank. In response to a question, the agency stated that the other involved 12.7mm ammunition.
