Tunisia’s Ennahda freezes membership of Imad Al-Hamami

Tunisia’s Ennahda Movement yesterday announced the suspension of the membership of one of its senior members, Imad Al-Hamami.

“The party leader, Rached Ghannouchi, has decided to freeze Al-Hamami’s membership and refer him to the System Committee over repeated transgressions on the movement’s policies,” the party said on Facebook, adding that the move was in line with the “provisions of the party’s basic law.”

Al-Hamami has repeatedly criticised Ghannouchi’s policies and called on him to resign from its presidency. Al-Hamami previously served as vocational training and employment minister in the cabinet of the former Prime Minister Youssef Chahed.
