Turkey and Algeria discuss cooperation and support for Palestine

Speaker of the Algerian Parliament, Ibrahim Bougali, discussed this with his Turkish counterpart Mustafa Sentop during a telephone call, ways to cooperate and support Palestine.

According to a statement issued by the National People’s Assembly, Algeria’s lower chamber, Bougali and Sentop looked at the reality and prospects for bilateral relations to bring their countries together, especially at the parliamentary level. They agreed on the need to upgrade relations.

“This conversation provided an opportunity for the officials to review the developments in the international arena, most notably the Palestinian cause,” said the assembly.

Moreover, both officials affirmed the readiness of their respective governments to continue to support the Palestinian people in their struggle against the Israeli occupation. “It is necessary to engage in various parliamentary forums to ensure that [the Palestinians’] legitimate rights are upheld to establish an independent state with full sovereignty and Jerusalem as its capital,” they insisted.

The occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, have witnessed confrontations between the occupation forces and illegal settlers on one side, and the Palestinians on the other since April. There have been repeated Israeli incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque and attempts to displace Palestinian residents from a number of neighborhoods in the Holy City. Hundreds of Palestinians were killed and thousands were wounded when Israel bombarded the Gaza Strip for ten days and nights in May.
