British Transport Minister Grant Shapps
In a tweet on Friday, British Transport Minister Grant Shapps stated that no Russian private jets will be allowed to fly or land in UK airspace, effective immediately.
“Putin’s actions are illegal, and anyone who stands to gain from Russia’s aggression in Ukraine is not welcome here. I’ve reinforced our prohibition in the UK so that no Russian private plane may fly or land in British airspace — effective immediately “Shapps sent a tweet.
Shapps’ action comes after Russia barred British airlines from landing at its airports or traversing its airspace in retaliation to London’s embargo on Russian flag carrier Aeroflot flights in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Poland and the Czech Republic also announced that Russian planes would be barred from using their airspace, while carriers like as IAG-owned British Airways and Virgin Atlantic began rerouting flights around Russian airspace.
