The British government is watching the newest COVID-19 data practically hourly and will do everything it takes to combat the spread, according to health minister Sajid Javid, who spoke to Sky News on Sunday.

According to Javid, data research revealed that almost 60% of all new COVID-19 cases in England are the fast-spreading omicron type, although the UK was in a better condition than last Christmas due to factors like immunizations and testing.

When asked about reports of possible additional measures, Javid stated, “We will do what is necessary, but it has to be backed up by data… we are watching the data, discussing it with our scientists and best advisers almost hourly, and we will monitor that very carefully, and we will keep the situation under review.”
