Ukraine reports higher Chernobyl radiation levels

Ukraine’s nuclear agency and interior ministry said on Friday that they were monitoring rising radiation levels near the destroyed Chernobyl nuclear power facility.

Experts at the state nuclear agency did not disclose specific radiation levels, but claimed the change was caused by heavy military equipment moving through the region, which lifted radioactive material into the air.

“Radiation levels begin to rise. For the time being, Kyiv is not in danger, but we are keeping an eye on things “According to the interior ministry.

The still-radioactive site of the 1986 nuclear disaster lies some 100 kilometres from Kyiv.
