Ukraine shuts down ports as conflict threatens grain supplies
According to Ukraine’s envoy to Turkey, Turkish customs officers stopped a Russian cargo ship carrying grain that Ukraine claims is stolen.
According to an official and papers seen by Reuters, Ukraine has previously urged Turkey to hold the Russian-flagged Zhibek Zholy cargo ship.
On Sunday, Reuters journalists observed the Zhibek Zholy ship tied about 1 kilometer from shore and outside the Karasu port, with no visible evidence of movement onboard or by other boats close.
Ukraine has accused Russia of stealing grain from the territories that Russian forces have seized since Moscow’s invasion began in late February. The Kremlin has previously denied that Russia has stolen any Ukrainian grain.
