Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called for fresh international sanctions against Russia on Monday in response to its invasion of Ukraine, suggesting a boycott of Russian oil and other Russian goods, as well as a stop in exports to Russia.
Western sanctions implemented in response to Russia’s military invasion have already isolated the country to an extent never previously seen by such a huge economy.
Zelenskiy stated that economic pressure on Russia should be strengthened, thus pushing for an international trade boycott on Russia.
“If the invasion continues and Russia has not abandoned its plans against Ukraine, then a new sanctions package is needed … for the sake of peace,” he said in a video address, mentioning a boycott of Russian oil and oil products in particular.
“Boycott imports to Russia – if they do not adhere to civilized rules, then they should not receive goods and services from civilization – let the war feed them,” he said.
