The US, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the European Union issued a joint statement on Monday urging the Belarusian government to “stop its repressive policies against its own people.”

They also encouraged Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s government to assist with international inquiries “into the events of May 23rd,” when a Ryanair plane was forced to land in Minsk and a Belarusian journalist and his passenger were detained.
