US Secretary Blinken: Washington expects Biden and Xi to meet in the coming weeks

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said today that the United States expects President Joe Biden and Chinese Leader Xi Jinping to have the opportunity to speak to each other in the coming weeks.

He added at a press conference in Thailand that he could not decide who would represent the United States at the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Thailand.

“Regarding President Xi and President Biden, we expect that they will have the opportunity to speak in the coming weeks, and I can’t talk about what might happen in the fall,” Blinken said, according to Reuters.

In response to another question, Blinken said, “While we are very much looking forward to participating in the APEC summit… I can’t say right now who will participate, but the United States will be very present.”
