The embarrassing situation faced by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, when she met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, accompanied by the President of the European Council Charles Michel, caused a diplomatic uproar, as she was left standing while the two sat, according to the Washington Post .
A video tape of the leaders gathered in a conference room in Ankara showed that both Erdogan and Michel settled into their seats, while von der Leyen was looking for a place to sit.
Von der Leyen stood staring at them, gestured with her right hand and seemed to say “Hamm”, trying to warn about what was going wrong.
