Morocco Eases Coronavirus Restrictions, Allows Indoor Gatherings

The Moroccan government announced its decision to ease COVID-19 restrictions starting Tuesday, as infections continue to decline.

It allowed the organization of indoor events and gatherings under 50 people and outdoor events and gatherings for less than 100 people, provided that they obtain a license from local authorities in case they exceed these figures.

According to a government statement, these measures also include limiting the capacity of public transportation to 75 percent, opening theaters, cinemas, cultural centers, libraries, museums and monuments at 50 percent capacity.

The government also decided to allow wedding halls to operate at 50 percent capacity, provided that the number of attendees does not exceed 100 people.

It also allowed the reopening of public beaches, while stressing the importance of maintaining social distancing. Public swimming pools will be opened at 50 percent capacity.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs announced a royal order by King Mohammed VI to reopen mosques gradually, in coordination with the relevant authorities.
