Guatemala starts probe into bribery allegations linked to president
Guatemalan prosecutors have started an inquiry into charges that Russian businessmen paid a bribe to President Alejandro Giammattei to get a dock in one of the country’s key ports, according to the attorney general’s office. Anti-corruption prosecutors had opened the investigation, according to Juan Luis Pantaleon, a spokesman for Guatemala’s attorney general’s office. He added that Giammattei was not currently under investigation because no impeachment proceedings had begun.
