Arab diplomatic sources say that for every step Lebanon takes forward, Gulf will do so

According to Arab diplomatic sources, the return of the ambassadors of the Gulf states to Lebanon has not resulted in improved ties. Rather, it positions their return in the context of the Gulf states taking a step forward whenever Lebanon makes a stride forward. However, these countries, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, remain cautious.

According to sources who corroborated their statements to Sawt Beirut International, a Gulf authority wants to offer Lebanon a second opportunity. Unlike the previous position of the Lebanese government presidency, to which a basic paragraph was added about the prime minister’s previous statements on what it means to call everyone to stop hostile, security, and political actions against the Gulf, Riyadh considered the statement literally what was considered an advanced position from Lebanon.

The fulfillment of the Gulf measures at a later date is tied to the future developments of the truce and the Lebanese effort to mend ties with acts rather than words; otherwise, the Gulf will respond to any error in truth and in a more aggressive manner.

The previous stance of Prime Minister Najib Mikati met the Kuwaiti proposal, even though it was not completely executed, and Lebanon lacks the competence to implement it, as the Gulf people recognize. The ambassadors have returned, but in all of their roles, they are focused on helping the Lebanese people and Lebanon as a country. Their governments regard Mikati’s remark as the bare minimum for the Lebanese stance, as there can be no going back.

According to sources, the sovereign parties in Lebanon, who received moral and political support with the return of the Gulf ambassadors, are necessary to know how to fight at this time, especially as parliamentary elections approach. The presence of ambassadors indicates their interest, but they must recognize that what is required of them is more solidarity with the Gulf and true sovereignty, and they should not consider returning to linking a fight.

If the sovereigns build more on positive positions, in addition to the fact that the authority is built more on the government’s recent position, and what resulted in the Gulf, then all of this is considered a second chance for the government and all parties to gain the support of the Gulf, especially since the Gulf will be the primary financier of the post-conclusion phase of the agreement with the IMF, as well as for the time following the gradual implementation of reforms.

According to the sources, the return is also tied to the new climate being prepared in the region in line with the anticipated return to the 2015 nuclear accord. There is nothing new at the moment, but there are changes that the area will see shortly, so there is a French-Gulf-American harmony that will produce steps. It will also be influenced by the effects of Russia’s conflict on Ukraine on the region. This puts back to the fore the Gulf’s positioning and self-reliance in the face of threats, as the American willingness to act militarily to safeguard allies and interests declines.
