The Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine was given final approval by the US Food and Drug Administration on Monday for persons aged 16 and up. This is the first coronavirus vaccine to receive FDA approval, and it is anticipated to pave the way for additional vaccination requirements in the future.
“The vaccine, formerly known as the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, will now be marketed as Comirnaty for the prevention of COVID-19 illness in persons 16 years of age and older,” the FDA announced on Monday.
Since mid-December, the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine has been approved for emergency use in the United States for persons aged 16 and above. The permission was extended to individuals aged 12 and above in May.
