France’s Macron says up to Ukraine to decide on potential territorial concessions

France’s President Emmanuel Macron told TF1 television during a visit to Kyiv that Ukraine should determine whether or not to concede any territorial concessions to Russia in order to stop the war.

“This is up to Ukraine to decide,” Macron said when asked what concessions it should take, including on its territory, adding, “I think it is our obligation to stand by our principles, by international law, and therefore by Ukraine.”

The leaders of Germany, France, and Italy, all of whom Kyiv has previously chastised for overly cautious assistance, visited Ukraine on Thursday and dangled the prospect of EU membership to a country desperate for weaponry to repel Russia’s invasion.
