The state-run Tianjin Daily said on Monday that health officials in northern China’s port city of Tianjin had discovered the first case of the Omicron coronavirus strain on the country’s mainland.

The illness was identified in a tourist who arrived in the city from outside on December 9, according to the publication, who added that the patient is presently being treated in medical isolation.
