Malaysia’s 96-year-old former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, who held the position for more than two decades, is healing in hospital and has been transferred to a normal ward, his daughter announced on Wednesday.

Marina Mahathir stated in a statement that her father has left the National Heart Institute’s coronary treatment unit and was “joyous and ready to fully recover.”

On Tuesday, the family stated that Mahathir had urged that people not be overly concerned about his health.

Mahathir, who is still a legislator, was re-admitted to the hospital for treatment on Jan. 8 after having an elective medical operation.

The hospital did not share information about the procedure.
