On Friday, Shanghai made further incremental moves toward releasing its COVID-19 lockdown, while Beijing investigated situations where its severe restrictions were interfering with other medical procedures, as China continued its unequal withdrawal from restrictions.
The financial center and the capital have been hotspots, with a two-month lockdown in Shanghai to stop a coronavirus epidemic and stringent mobility restrictions in Beijing to stop a tiny but persistent outbreak.
The restrictions have harmed the world’s second-largest economy, even as other countries strive to return to normalcy.
