Sawt Beirut International (SBI) reporter Sarah Shehadeh conveyed the situation from Saida’s Souk, however, the scene seemed different compared to previous days. The streets were almost empty, while merchants sitting in front of their retail shops waiting for customers.

A shop owner in the Souk told SBI: “The roads are empty, even Riad El Solh Street, the major street that usually witnesses stifling traffic jam.”

Another shop owner said: “There isn’t any person on the street, as people are not visiting the market unless they have to secure their necessary needs.”

The price of clothes, shoes, and food varies from on minute to another, especially after the dollar touched 18,000 LBP.

A merchant told SBI: “Customers who are asking about prices are more than those who are purchasing stuff. The prices still surprise and shock some categories.” He added that traders are no longer able to price their goods.”

A citizen confirmed that she went to the Souk, but she wasn’t able to purchase anything due to the skyrocketing prices.

Lebanon is suffering one of its worst economic crises, and Lebanese are battling to survive. Businessmen and people who invested in the country for years, have wasted their pains and lost their efforts within days, while the ruling authority is in deep slumber.
