Wham!, Mariah Carey and The Pogues lead flood of Christmas songs in UK top 40

In the UK charts, the holiday spirit is dominating with nearly three-quarters of the top 40 songs being Christmas-themed. Wham!’s “Last Christmas” has secured the number one spot for the fourth time, with Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” following at second place.

The Pogues’ “Fairytale of New York” has risen to number four a week after the death of singer Shane MacGowan. There are a total of eight festive songs in the top 10, including classics like Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” and Ed Sheeran and Elton John’s “Merry Christmas.”

Wham!’s Andrew Ridgeley expressed delight at the song’s success. The chart also notes the absence of LadBaby, known for securing the Christmas number one for five consecutive years.

The top 40 includes various holiday hits, while non-seasonal singles like Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me” have also made an impact.
