The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced in a statement that “a peacekeeper was injured last night after one of its patrols came under attack by a group of youths in the town of Tyre in southern Lebanon. Additionally, a vehicle was damaged in the incident.”
It considered that “assaults on men and women serving the cause of peace are not only condemnable but also constitute a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and Lebanese law. The freedom of movement for peacekeeping forces is crucial in our efforts to restore security and stability along the Blue Line.”
UNIFIL urged “Lebanese authorities to conduct a full and swift investigation and bring all perpetrators to justice.”
It concluded by stating, “UNIFIL peacekeepers continue their duties, and we will persist in our core work of monitoring and de-escalation.”
