5,000 employees may lose their jobs due to restructuring

Banking sector employees, like all employees, suffer from a financial crisis, arbitrary disbursement, and an unknown fate regarding the restructuring of the banking sector. What does the head of the Syndicate of Banking Employees, Asad Khoury, say to the correspondent of “Sawt Beirut International” Mahasin Mursal about the reality of banking sector employees?

“The number of employees in the banking sector was approximately 26 thousand employees in 2019.between 2019 and 2020, around two thousand employees were dismissed. Some banks imposed conditions on the employees, otherwise they leave. When we learned about the matter, we intervened, and upon re-generalizing the restructuring, all matters were addressed except What is related to the employee who is the human capital and who will be sacrificed accordingly, which prompted us at the end of last year to visit the governor of the Banque du Liban, where we told him that the employee was not taken into consideration. according to what Khoury says , he  expects the dismissal of about 5,000 employees and perhaps more, which he considers a “Social massacre in the banking sector.”

Khoury indicated that “we have submitted a protocol indicating that every employee will be dismissed as a result of the restructuring, regardless of its form, must be paid 18 months (lump sum) and two months for every year of service up to 36 years, in addition to all the rights mentioned in the labor law, including the warning, and what is stated in Article 31 of the collective work contract, in addition to that whoever worked in a banking institution and moved to another institution, the total years of his work in the two institutions must be taken into consideration.

Lebanon will witness an unprecedented wave of work dismissal this year, and unfortunately no sector will be spared the scourge of unemployment and its negative repercussions
