Before providing aid to Lebanon, there are various conditions that shall be met

Several foreign demands stipulating the application of reforms are being brought back to the table after Najib Mikati was assigned to form a government, regardless of his performance in this duty. Without reforms, not a single foreign power is thus ready to support Lebanon financially. The journalist Nazir Reda refuted the most significant of these conditions to Sawt Beirut International’s reporter, Mahasen Morsal.

“The international community is dealing with a fait accompli,” Reda said, adding that “all international declarations indicate that the cabinet formation is now the cornerstone for any reform. The nations have set certain specifications for it without naming any figure.”

“In the end, the Parliament is the one who gives or takes away confidence from the government, and this occurs within the framework of political agreements that the international community is aware of. As a result, the international community’s insistence on providing aid in the presence of a government makes sense,” Reda added.

According to Reda, the government will be formed, and will mainly consist of four items: “the $860 million World Bank loan for the financing card, and there are negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, demarcation of borders, and the election file, all of which require a government, so the international community is interested in the issue of elections, creditors, and maintaining stability.”

Undoubtedly, the international community needs a government with which to negotiate, but it also needs professional and loyal individuals, as well as a government free of Hezbollah’s weapons.
