As polling began for the Philippine presidential election, unknown gunmen on board two trucks came and opened fire randomly towards the peacekeeping forces that are protecting a polling station in a town in the south of the country where extremist groups are active, which led to the killing of three security personnel, wounding a fourth, and causing a situation of panic among the electorate.
The shooting was preceded by the explosion of hand grenades near a polling station on Sunday night in the same area, wounding nine people.
