Amid meds crisis… Citizens are looking for alternatives

Here’s a phenomenon that is a live indicator of the miserable reality that the country has reached. Pharmacies that are out of most of the basic medicines, made citizens look for alternatives to relieve their pain.

Herbal medicine has become the best solution for many. Workers in this sector are noticing an active movement in their markets. Youssef El-Marouk (a herb seller), said to “Sawt Beirut International” correspondent, Ghassan Farran, “Alternative medicine is a positive thing to treat people with, but it’s a negative sign since it means that the country is running out of medicines, even some herbs are starting to get lost. This sector was very recommended in the past, and the recommendation has increased with medicine loss”.

El-Marouk explained that “Lavender herb is useful in treating headaches and is an alternative to Panadol. The fenugreek is good for diabetics. As for the Nigella sativa, it has many benefits related to immunity, and it is also a vitamin. Arabic gum is good for kidneys and the liver. Cupping has positive results, as it stimulates blood circulation”.

Is herbal medicine considered a normal thing, or is it an indication of the retardation of the country and a return back to where our ancestors were, while the world is in continuous development and remarkable progress?
