Generators are shutting down and patients’ lives are in danger

Every generator that runs out of diesel is immediately shut down. And after the successive warnings of the generators’ owners, come the warning of hospital that are unable to obtain diesel fuel to operate in light of power outages for at least 20 hours a day. Therefore, patients’ lives are at risk.

The head of the Hospitals Syndicate, Suleiman Haroun, said to Sawt Beirut International correspondent Ghida Jbeili, “Most of the hospitals suffer from the fuel oil problem. Some have fuel for like two days, and others only for few hours. But hospitals will run out of stock in a few days. The stock of private companies is very small. Not all hospitals buy diesel from these companies, which means that if the crisis isn’t solved, we will face a catastrophe”.

Just like dominoes, vital sectors in the country are falling, in addition to the tourism sector. A number of hotels and tourist establishments, that have run out of diesel, tend to close and ask their visitors to leave.

The captain of the hotels, Pierre Al-Ashkar, told “Sawt Beirut International” that hotels are able to withstand for a period of 6 to 10 hours, with a maximum of days.
