Political activist and economic expert Zaher Eido said in an interview with the “Voice of the People” program with Mario Abboud, via “Sawt Beirut International” and “LBCI” channel, that “there is nothing greater than the Al-Madina Bank scandal in Lebanon. When I was in the Special Investigation Commission at the central bank, we worked on the report for more than 4 years. When it was over, the governor of the central bank crossed out 7 names of politicians involved in the scandal! I then refused to sign the report back then”.

When asked about the names, Zaher Eido said “I will not reveal the names. I lost my father and brother. My dad was assassinated for telling the truth”.

“Judge Saeed Mirza knows who were these politicians since he was the Public Prosecutor of Discrimination at the time. He knows who were the politicians whose names were crossed out, since Bank Al-Madina was linked to the assassination of the martyred Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Large sums of money went to a Syrian officer who was ruling Lebanon. At that time Judge Mirza asked me why didn’t I sign the report, and I insisted on refusing to sign but on the main report”, he added.

Eido said that “the mistakes of the governor of the central bank were mostly because he wanted to reach the presidency position. therefore, he was pleasing politicians.”
