“Zero electricity and total darkness” were the result of eight months of back-and-forth between the two teams of the Ministry of Energy and Prime Minister Najib Mikati, who decided in his farewell appearance and before entering the era of caretaker to reveal the ministerial obstruction of the Covenant team to new offers to produce electricity by accusing them of withdrawing the terms of reference for two gas plants at affordable prices, which Siemens and General Electric pledged to build.

Despite the importance of the position for President Mikati, the main question is, what is the point of announcing this protracted scandal after its occurrence? Was it not the interest of the Lebanese people to hit their hand on the table to prevent this obstruction first and expose it to the Lebanese public opinion, perhaps preventing entry into the tunnel of darkness?!

Fayyad’s argument was that the two proposals needed further study, but the truth is that “They”, meaning those who control Fayyad and his decisions, have decided to withdraw the file from the cabinet’s agenda for malicious purposes and a refusal to register the 24/24 electricity achievement in a government in which they are not present. Who is responsible for this crime? Who protects the current from the corruption and maliciousness of the current?!

Attention is turning today towards a new government with promising faces and safe hands on energy, and it will succeed in lighting a candle of hope in the hearts of the Lebanese and lighting their homes!
