The twenty-fourth edition of the Beijing Winter Olympics concluded with a magnificent visual and auditory spectacle accentuated by ninety seconds of fireworks after seventeen days of grueling sporting activities.

This event drew 2,911 competitors who competed for 109 championships.

Norway won the event with 37 medals, including 16 gold, ahead of Germany and China, who came in second and third in terms of medal count.

The next Winter Games will be hosted in Italy in 2026, but the Olympic torch will be ignited two years earlier at the start of the Summer Games in Paris.
