Ministry of Health: We are informed of possible cases of monkeypox

The Ministry of Health revealed that it has been informed about possible cases of monkeypox, and it is investigating cases and sending samples to the reference laboratory in France, in addition to tracing contacts.

In a statement, the ministry stated that smallpox is caused by a virus that is transmitted to humans:

Either from animal to human through contact with infected animals (rodents or monkeys) in countries where the virus is endemic, such as: Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo (Kinshasa), Cameroon and the Central African Republic.

Either from human to human through direct contact with skin lesions, droplets or sexual relations, or indirectly through contaminated tools.

The incubation period ranges from 5 to 21 days. The following symptoms include: fever, headache, swollen lymph nodes, muscle pain, fatigue, and then a rash that develops from maculopapular to vesicular pustular, starting from the head and spreading to the body
Upon diagnosis, the patient is required to be isolated all the illness duration in the house if the symptoms are mild. Isolation is required in the hospital in case of infection (lung infection).

With regard to close contacts, they are requested to be identified and followed up for 21 days without the need for quarantine or home quarantine. If symptoms appear in contacts, laboratory tests are requested and they should be isolated.
