The Amal – Hezbollah Binary: Long live the rule of militias!

Happy Easter. But the good is still a little far from Lebanon! How does good come to a country in which there are two states, two armies, and two legitimacy? Between yesterday and today, the Amal-Hezbollah duo presented a striking example of its disdain for the state, its failure to respect its laws and its non-compliance with its institutions! Elements of the Amal movement prevented members of an electoral list in the Tire-Al-Zahrani constituency from holding a press conference to announce the list’s composition and program. They used stones and shot in the air to intimidate the candidates for the elections, and prevented them from entering the hall from which they were preparing to launch their list.

n which country do we live? And is it permissible for partisan elements to control a certain area and to conduct matters according to their will and will? Is this the democracy that we sing about in Lebanon? In other words, do we live in a democratic rule or under a militia rule that is embodied by the Amal movement in its best practices? Today, the scene was completed with President Michel Aoun’s admission that the duo is the one who obstructs the completion of the partial judicial formations, in order to prevent the judicial investigator, Tariq Al-Bitar, from completing his investigations. It is really unfortunate.

It is even more unfortunate that President Aoun talks about the issue as though he were a journalist or an observer, and not as if he was entrusted with the constitution and laws and their good implementation. It is another example of the strong covenant embodied by Michel Aoun. Therefore, Dear Lebanese, your country needs you, and the electoral duty is calling you. Participate massively in the upcoming parliamentary elections, as “your voices are our legitimate weapon”.
