Mikati’s “rescue government” needs to be rescued

why did the quiet man in general become a nervous person who erupts at the least word he hears and with every question a journalist asks him?

the reasons are many and can be summed up in one word: Failure.

the prime minister is uncomfortable with what is happening locally, regionnally and internationally.

on the local level, he is trapped by president Aoun’s team. he wants to protect Riad Salameh but his influence is weak, he wants to protect the banking system but Ghada Aoun is stronger than him.

he wants to pass the general budget and the Capital Control law in order to satisfy international financial institutions, While the 2018 deputies nominated in 2022 are not in ready to pass any unpopular law one and a half months before parliamentary elections are held.

His rescue project hit a blocked wall and could not move one step forward.

At regional level, it’s even worse, On his recent visit to Qatar, Mikati tried to meet with Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister. But the date did not take place, because Saudi Arabia did not respond to
his request.

Even at the international scale, IMF, World Bank and all donors persuade the “relief government” to implement the needed rescue laws, while Mikati seems incapable of doing anything.
