Sawt Beirut International’s News Bulletin – Oct. 6, 2021

A brief of tonight’s News Bulletin:

  • How did the Iranian tanker cross its route to Baniyas?
  • Is the gasoline crisis back?
  • What will happen, following Le Drian’s visit to the Kingdom?

Why is Hezbollah so restless right now? Are the sources of conflict local, regional, or global? Regardless of the causes, the tension is noticeable, and it may manifest itself in the party’s overall performance. The visit of Wafiq Safa, the director of the Coordination and Liaison Unit, to Beirut’s Palace of Justice is rare and unprecedented. Following Safa’s visit, Hashem Safi al-Din, the leader of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, took a strong position against the United States, accusing it of meddling in Lebanon’s security, politically, economically, and financially. Safi Al-Din was unsatisfied with this, but stressed that the US have a powerful impact in the nation, and that the party will expel them whenever he deems necessary.

It didn’t end there, either. Hassan Fadlallah, a member of parliament, has accused Washington of meddling in the port explosion inquiry. All of these positions show that the party is tense and that it wants to send a clear message to both the inner and outside worlds. The reason for this is that he is dissatisfied with the army’s and the judiciary’s performance. The two institutions’ performance shows a commitment to their autonomy. The evidence: the Arab and international support for the army in order for it to remain firm in the face of adversity, and the Lebanese support for the judiciary in order to continue the investigations against the corrupt system’s foundations.

In summary, despite its superior military strength, Hezbollah believes it is in trouble, and that its missiles do not always have an impact on the domestic level. People have got enough of the obstinacy and want to live a dignified life rather than die and be murdered in the name of the Iranian alliance. Will Hezbollah realize this, or will it continue to think that no opinion, not even that of the oppressed, impoverished, and starving, can be heard above the roar of war?
