“A swift opening for the burn unit at Hariri Hospital was crucial”, Abiad says

The Director General of Rafik Hariri University Hospital Dr. Firas Abiad sait that it was vital to expedite the opening of the burn unit at Rafik Hariri University Hospital, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross in Lebanon, amid the painful incident in Akkar.

Abiad wrote on his Twitter account: “Yesterday, we opened the 4-bed unit, and it received two patients, one of whom was in critical condition, with burns at 80 percent, and the other affected with fractures.”

He added that the new unit will receive more patients today.

“It is obvious that the large number of injuries and the small number of specialized burn units in Lebanon means that we will be in dire need of this service,” he said.

“We offer our appreciation to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Lebanon and the French Agency for Development in the Middle East for their continued support to the hospital, which enables us to continue. We are not alone,” Abiad said.
