The President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, has met with Minister of Interior and Municipalities Judge Bassam Mawlawi and discussed the country’s security situation as well as the ministry’s preparations for the parliamentary elections scheduled for Spring 2022, as well as issues relating to the ministry’s directorates’ tasks.

“There is no resistance to conducting the parliamentary elections sooner than the scheduled date,” Mawlawi said after the session, “but this will need legislative action to change a bunch of laws and deadlines.”
