Aoun: If Parliament decides that I should stay, I will stay

President of the Republic Michel Aoun affirmed that “the parliamentary elections will be held on time, and we will take all measures to make it on time.”

He said, “I will leave Baabda Palace when my term ends, but if the House of Representatives decides for me to stay with me, I will stay.”

In an interview with Al-Jazeera, Aoun added: “I reviewed the Lebanese-Gulf crisis during my meeting with the Emir of the State of Qatar. He indicated that no one was asked to resign, and Information Minister George Kordahi will act on the basis of what is best for Lebanon.”

Aoun said, “I do not agree with Hezbollah to dismiss the investigator in the Beirut port case,” pointing out that the “party” is committed to Resolution 1701 and has not issued any defect since 2017.”

Aoun explained that “the Central Bank is subject to a criminal investigation, and the governor of the bank, Riad Salameh, is responsible for the lost money.”

He pointed out that “there are several accumulations that contributed to the exacerbation of the economic crisis in Lebanon.”

Aoun announced that he would not sign the decree amending the maritime borders “as long as we are in the negotiation stage.”
