The head of the General Labor Union Bechara Asmar called on Wednesday during a radio interview, for an increase in wage for the public and private sectors.

He said: “In 2017, we requested that the minimum wage would be raised to 1.5 million LBP. Raising the minimum wage is the minimum requirement to be able to cover the costs of transportation, generators, housing, education and medical care.”

Asmar added: “We have to head towards active institutions, but if they are bankrupt, we will take into consideration their situation. I am open to discussing the components of the minimum wage at  7 million LBP.”

Asmar said that they will give the government a period of time to find solutions and to put an end to the currency collapse and to set a fixed price for the dollar.”
