Banque du Liban extends effect of Circular 161

The Governor of Banque du Liban, Riad Salameh, announced in a statement that “the Central Council has agreed to extend the effects of Basic Circular No. 161 until the end of July 2022, subject to renewal.”
Salameh also stressed that “the dealings with bank notes in US dollars against the Lebanese pound continues with banks without a specific ceiling on the price of the Sayrafa platform.”
On December 16, the Banque du Liban issued a circular bearing the number 161, stipulating that banks pay their customers cash withdrawals that they are entitled to withdraw, whether in pounds or dollars, according to the limits approved by each bank, provided that they are in fresh dollars according to the exchange rate on an exchange platform on the day before the draw.
