The head of the Syndicate of Bread Industry in Lebanon, Antoine Seif, told Voice of Lebanon 100.5 that there is no decision to raise the price of a bundle of bread in the near future, noting that all mechanisms for securing and importing wheat are still under discussion.
He pointed out that there are mills that were closed as a result of the delay in the wheat inspection process.
He continued, “We raise our hand from every monopolistic bakery, and subsidies must be lifted from all types of wheat that are used for other than the Lebanese loaf.”
Also, he considered that what is required of the state to continue the subsidy process, which amounts to 260 million dollars annually, the Lebanese wheat is not sufficient for the needs of the Lebanese market, so work must be done to support farmers to increase the cultivated areas.
