Constitutional Council Head explains most recent developments in petition filed by FPM

Tannous Mechleb, the head of the Constitutional Council, announced that “we have held several meetings regarding the Free Patriotic Movement’s appeal against the electoral law, and tomorrow’s session will be expanded, but it is not possible to continue holding meetings after Tuesday, the 21st of this month.”

Mechleb told Al-Jadeed that “there are numerous remaining items that have been considered so far with relation to the appeal in the Constitutional Council, and no vote has been made on any item yet, and tomorrow will be a crucial session.”

Mechleb stressed that President Michel Aoun’s comment on the timing of the parliamentary elections has nothing to do with choices.

He emphasized that “the statements made by the Constitutional Council in the media are erroneous and misleading, and everything that is being distributed is merely an analysis, and there is no sectarian divide in the Council, but rather the discussion is ongoing.”
