Prime Minister Najib Mikati, on Wednesday welcomed the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Rola Dashti, at the Grand Serail.

In the wake of the meeting, Dashti described her meeting with Mikati as “fruitful and practical.”

“We’ve discussed the economic and social challenges that Lebanon currently witnesses, the importance of speeding up reforms, and the means by which ESCWA intends to support these reforms, especially in the areas of public finance and social issues,” Dashti said.

“We’ve also capitalized on the importance of benefiting from infrastructure and capital investment loans for Lebanon in an attempt to provide job opportunities for the Lebanese youth and develop the economy in these areas,” she added.

“ESCWA will support the government and provide it with technical and economic expertise to enjoy greater capacity in negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and with donor countries,” Dashti concluded.
