Fayyad: The ball now in World Bank’s playground.

The Minister of Energy and Water, Walid Fayyad, confirmed that there will be no radical change in the electricity plan’s course. He said after meeting with President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, at Baabda Palace, that “the guiding scheme for the electricity plan depends on 4 stations, 2 of which are in Deir Ammar, one in Zahrani and another in Selaata, due to the need to stabilize the network, and create a balance between production and distribution, in addition to the need to dismantle the Zouk station.”

Fayyad pointed out that “it was necessary to approve the plan for the development of electricity for the benefit of Lebanon to move forward, and obtain financing from the World Bank, in preparation for extracting Egyptian gas and electricity from Jordan.”

He stressed that “the ball today, after approving the electricity plan, is in the court of the World Bank, to officially enter into negotiations with us on the issue of financing, while we are also waiting for the United Nations and the American administration to give Egypt a green light on the issue of towing gas.”
