Flour crisis to the fore again!

Head of Bakeries Owners Syndicate, Ali Ibrahim, confirmed that “there are 7 closed mills out of 11, and their stock is not enough for more than one or two days.”

Ibrahim indicated via a radio interview that “wheat is in the mills, but it is no longer subsidized, and if the crisis is not resolved today, we will witness queues of people rushing to buy bread.”

In a related context, the Union confirmed in a statement on Monday that “the bakery sector has been going through a severe shortage of flour for two weeks.” Noting that the quantities of flour in the bakeries “are nearing completion. And the quantity of flour available, does not exceed fifty percent.”

Accordingly, the union saw the need to secure flour subsidy funds, as there are “many mills that have a stock of wheat in the secretariat, the price of which has not been paid according to the mechanism adopted through the subsidy.” The union drew attention to the existence of “discretionary approval of the wheat import bills submitted by the mills.”
As for the fact that the file was not put on the table in the last Cabinet session , it raises doubts in the union about the existence of a “hidden complex.”
