Foreign Minister: Parliamentary elections will be held on time

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Abdallah Bou Habib received the Ambassador of the European Union to Lebanon Ralph Tarraf, on a congratulatory visit, where they discussed bilateral relations and the means to reactivate joint projects and committees between Lebanon and the European Union in the next phase, which were suspended during the previous government’s caretaker period.

Both parties discussed the issue of organizing parliamentary elections.

Minister Bouhabib also met with French Ambassador to Lebanon Anne Grillo, who handed him a congratulatory message from his counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian. They discussed the meetings that Prime Minister Najib Mikati held with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

The discussions included the parliamentary elections that will take place next year, in addition to the bilateral relations and the status of the international force operating in the south (UNIFIL).

The Foreign Minister met with the Head of the Middle East Department at the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development Claus Kramer and the delegation of the German GIZ Bank for Reconstruction and the German International Cooperation Agency KFW.

During the meeting, Bou Habib presented the government’s vision and “its willpower to carry out real reforms and hold the parliamentary elections on time,” welcoming the participation of observers from the German Agency and other agencies to ensure the integrity of the election process.

In turn, the German side presented the possibility of cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the two agencies and the projects they are working on and the possibility of developing them in the future.
