Gemayel meets le Drian, warns against settlements detrimental to Lebanon’s interests

Kataeb Leader Samy Gemayel met with French Presidential Envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian, describing the meeting as positive with a significant breakthrough in the French stance.

Gemayel emphasized the importance of a consensus presidential candidate and called on Hezbollah to engage in dialogue for the benefit of Lebanon. He discussed various presidential scenarios with the French envoy and warned against regional settlements detrimental to Lebanon’s interests.

Gemayel highlighted the need for a unified military institution to protect Lebanon, implement UN Resolution 1701, and asserted Lebanon’s sovereignty. He called for unity amid the challenges in the region, emphasizing the importance of transcending sectarian boundaries for Lebanon’s best interests.

Gemayel rejected the appointment of a new army commander without a head of state and advocated for postponing the current army commander’s retirement until a president is elected.
