The Press Office of the Presidency of the Republic clarified in response to those who extracted part of President Michel Aoun’s message to the Lebanese, that it was read in a way which is different from reality, on purpose or out of misunderstanding.
The statement said that Aoun would like to remind citizens that he was the one who launched the slogan “Lebanon is too big to be swallowed and too small to be divided.”
The statement confirmed that financial and administrative decentralization are among the contents of the National Accord Document emanating from the Taif Agreement and in the Constitution’s introduction about balanced development of the regions.
The statement pointed out that local public services do not mean abandoning the central state system in terms of public finance, security and foreign policy. It added quoting Aoun: “I will not hesitate to work to bring everyone his right across Lebanon.”
