In Wonderland… Even bread on black-market.

Stores and supermarkets in Nabatieh, received this morning small quantities of bread bundles from the bakeries, due to the fact that their flour stocks had started to run out. In some areas, a bundle of bread was sold on the black market for 30,000 Lebanese pounds.

As for gasoline, after the stations witnessed a crowd of cars yesterday, while some of them lifted hoses to receive small quantities of the substance from the companies. Mostly opened today after the increase in price.

The head of Trade Unions and Employers Federation in Nabatiyeh Governorate, Hussein Wehbi Mogharbel, warned of “a loaf crisis due to the non-importation of wheat and Banque du Liban failure in openning credits,” and said: “We live in a country of crises, from bread to gasoline, medicine, medicine, wheat and flour, and no one cares about the importance of To hear the cries of the underprivileged, the poor and the destitute.”

He added: “They are manipulating the price of the dollar, and no one is deterring them, and the concerns of citizens are increasing and officials are watching,” wondering: “Who is deterring oil cartels and who is raising gasoline prices? The employee and the teacher cannot go to work because his salary is equal to the price of two gas cans.”

He called on the government, before becoming a caretaker government, to “deter those who violate food security, because it is a sin and a taboo to harm the livelihood of the citizen, under the pretext of high prices due to dollar hike, there are shop and station owners who got rich at the expense of the poor.”
